Linda & Everett Reid
About the house
Restaurant L&E is Linda and Everett Reid’s third restaurant together. They have been partners since 1985, when they opened American Seasons on Nantucket. The regional menu there drew both the local and the national press.
Chef Everett G. Reid III trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, at Le Cordon Bleu in London, and in kitchens in Manhattan and Boston. Over ten years at American Seasons the couple were written up in the Boston Globe and the New York Times. Everett appeared in the PBS series and cookbook Great Chefs of the East. American Seasons kept the highest Zagat rating the guide would give, and still stands, under new owners, at 80 Centre Street on the island.
Linda writes the wine list. At American Seasons it won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence more than once, and the Boston press noticed it as one of the first serious all-American lists on the East Coast. Moona, also on Nantucket, was their second place: a turn toward European bistro food and wine.
The building at 59 Main Street had already been feeding Chester and the towns around it for more than thirty years when they took it. It is the people inside, they wrote, who make it a restaurant.
